Rejoice.

Over the easter weekend I finally found some time to lay the groundworks for Stoned 2.0 and imported that base into our subversion repository.

So far we have:

  • A very solid framework (supporting Mac, Linux, and Windows)
  • The (old) ice-rink
  • The old stones
  • A working Mac-Binary

There will be more to come.
We have solid plans for every step on the route to 2.0.
The largest item will be the rework of the interface, especially the menu.

Only a few more month ;) Because this time we’ll do it right - from the beginning.

I just moved over all the old news.
Some of the dates are just guestimates,
since we “posted” manually in the beginning.

I hope I’ll never have to do this again.

We all know, that stoned was first released at MekkaSymposium 2002,
which was held in Fallingbostel (near Hannover, Germany) over easter in 2002.

Shortly after that the first incarnation of this website was set up at
http://www.webhome.de/stoned/ (Don’t try, it’s gone,  but there are still some scraps at archive.org)
on April 18th, 2002.

On June 4th, 2002 the site was heavyly redesigned - well, there was no design before that.
The base concept stayed the same ever since.

On August 21st, 2003 we moved the site over to http://stoned.cute-ninjas.com/ ,
where it stayed until today … and will until I forget to renew the domain ;)
(Actually the new site was set up on July 13th, but we didn’t tell anyone.)

Today( March 7th, 2007) we moved the site to http://stoned.omni-mad.com/ ,
where it hopefully will stay.
The main reason for this is,
that cute-ninjas.com is more a sandbox to try new stuff,
while omni-mad.com is a serious development company
where we aim for commercial grade quality.

The Stoned website went through a lot of reincarnations over the last few years.

Mostly it was technical implementations changes, each taking up a lot of time.
I’d rather spent that time developing the game,
so I decided to  finally let someone else do the site coding.

The wordpress team has done a great job so far
and I am using it on dozens of other sites,
so the choice was easy.

This is the first post in the new system.
I will fix up the design over the next days
and the gradually will move over the old posts.

Don’t fear.
Stoned 2.0 is well on it’s track.

To celebrate the start of development on stoned 2.0,
I added the “old” version to the Great Games Experiment:

Great Games Experiment

Please check it out and use it to give us some feedback on the game,
so we can improve on that.

Changes:
- menu fixes
- removed dependency on libpng
- fixed an old music bug
- removed a lot dead code
- continued cleanups

We still aim to open up the sources by the end of the year,
but there is a lot of work left to be done…

I got a G5 Mac this week.
Right now I’m installing gentoo on it.

Looks like we might have a ppc64 version of stoned soon :)

June 16, 2004, 1:49 pm o'clock

The last weeks we have been busy working on a new release.
The major bugs are already fixed.
There are some minor ones which are still playing hide’n’seek.

Performance got much better again.

We aim to have a new release before the end of march.

Hold your breath ;)

Looks like the last development release was seriously broken.
We are looking into the problem right now.

We think we know what it is and we know how to fix it,
but we want to verify the behaviour before we go on and hack it.

We started using doxygen to generate source documentation.

Have a look at it here.
